A Poetry Reading Dedicated to Helen

National Theatre | January 16, 2022

Damian, Allie and Helen at A Poem for Every Day of the Year at the National Theatre in November 2017. Allie organized the event and Helen was one of the actresses reciting poems.

Following the success of previous poetry reading evenings at the National Theatre, Allie Esiri is back on January 25, 2022 for a fifth year with a show based on her latest anthology; A Poet for Every Day of the Year. We will journey through a calendar year, highlighting key moments and dates with poetry from some of the world’s greatest verse writers, read by some of our leading actors. This event is dedicated to Helen McCrory, who took part in some of these poetry evenings in previous years. Allie Esiri and Damian Lewis will be joined onstage by friends including Simon Russell Beale, Fay Ripley and Lesley Sharp.

Harry Potter Returns To Hogwarts

Jason Isaacs and Tom Felton remember Helen McCrory

The actors and cast behind the Harry Potter franchise remembered their late co-stars during an in memoriam section of the Harry Potter Return To Hogwarts reunion, which aired on Saturday.

Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint led the tributes to the many stars they have lost over the past two decades, since the franchise launched with Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone – including Richard Harris, Alan Rickman and most recently Helen McCrory.

Speaking about appearing on the reunion without their late stars, Emma said: ‘It’s obviously amazing to be back, but so many people we thought would be here for much longer like Helen and Alan and Richard’, while Rupert sadly echoed: ‘They’re like family, just gone too soon’.

Harry Potter stars pay emotional tribute to Alan Rickman, Helen McCrory and more

“They’re like family, we grieve in the same way”

By Amy West | Digital Spy | December 29, 2021

Harry Potter‘s Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe and more will soon be seen on Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts to celebrate the hugely popular movie franchise and look back on its 20-year history on screen.

The pre-recorded special, which is set to air at 8pm on New Year’s Day (January 1) on Sky Max, will be a star-studded affair with tons of cast members and directors Mike Newell, Alfonso Cuarón, David Yates and Chris Columbus all lined up to feature.

Sadly, though, there will, of course, be some noticeable absences – and the gang made sure not to let late actors Alan Rickman, John Hurt, Helen McCrory and more who have passed away since the film franchise began go unmentioned.

The Observer’s Obituaries of 2021: Helen McCrory Remembered by Cillian Murphy

Cillian Remembers Helen: “She was too young. You can’t help but think of all the amazing roles she would have had”

Cillian Murphy | December 12, 2021 | The Observer

17 August 1968 – 16 April 2021

The actor on his Peaky Blinders co-star, a supremely talented and compassionate performer whose grace and dignity never deserted her.

I first met Helen in the late 90s, when I attended an audition for a play at the Donmar Warehouse in London – I think Colin Farrell got the role. For some reason, she was there. I was just starting out, really nervous, and I think she picked up on that. We went outside at one point to smoke a rollie and she was really kind and supportive. I mentioned it to her when we started doing Peaky Blinders and she actually remembered it.

Helen had this genuine compassion. It was part of her DNA. She wasn’t an actor who turned up, did the gig and went home. All the way through Peaky Blinders, she would chat to members of the crew as well as the actors. She knew everyone’s name. It’s a huge collaboration making a series like that and it’s easy to think it’s only about the actors, but she was always very aware of the collective aspect of what we do. At the wrap for series two, she actually got up and performed a poem to us all. It was about how special the show was and how great the crew were. It was humorous, but really considerate. She had obviously put a lot of thought into it. It was pure Helen.
