Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight promises season six will be the “best one yet” and include tribute to the late Helen McCrory, who played matriarch Polly Gray.

Fans were devastated by the death of the renowned actress, who played matriarch Polly Gray, when she died from cancer at age 52 in April.

Show creator Steven Knight could not reveal if Polly Gray scenes were filmed for season six.

But when asked if viewers would see a tribute to Helen Mcrory, the screenwriter said: “In the show, you certainly will. There are plans for other things which may precede broadcasting.”

Memories of Talking Medea with Helen McCrory

Remembering Helen McCrory

by Edith Hall | July 3, 2021 | The Edithorial

In early 2014 I went downstairs to reception and saw a tiny figure, in a hat worthy of the Peaky Blinders, sunglasses, loose trousers and enveloping anorak. She recognised me, I assumed from my website, waved and smiled. We went up to my office. That was the first of several sessions, for me enthralling, in which we discussed Euripides’ Medea in remarkable detail. Helen McCrory put an incredible amount of intellect and hard work into that staggering, prize-winning performance.

She was interested in the research I’d done into criminal psychology and the profiles of women who kill their children. Certain patterns recur in these tragic cases. The women are often of high intelligence and well educated; this crime is by no means confined to the poor and deprived.

Helen McCrory: A Tribute

Remembering an Inspiring Encounter with Helen McCrory

by Gustav Temple | Summer 2021 Issue | The Chap

I interviewed Helen McCrory in the summer of 2019, during the build up to the screening on the BBC of the fifth series of Peaky Blinders. The main interview was done over the phone, during the whirlwind press junket she was on with all the cast, which undoubtedly would have involved dozens of similar interviews. When you interview a big star like McCrory, there is a press officer breathing on the line, ready to step in and halt the conversation if something said isn’t to their liking. You have already been briefed, usually, only to ask questions about the show they are promoting and not to stray from the approved script.

The first thing I expected, from experience with such interviews with actors, was a lot of ‘darlings’, lofty talk about “the craft” and quotes from Shakespeare, added to a refusal to discuss anything that didn’t promote the current project. So it took me by surprise when Helen immediately showed interest in the interviewer.
